American Strippers: “We may be stripping but we’re not jobless…”

United States – As many people are losing their jobs, the tough job market is prompting an increasing number of women to dance in strip clubs.

There is a reported increase of applications from women who are hopeful for a better income than what they had from their previous jobs. According to reports, most of these applicants hold college degrees and had white-collar jobs. A general manager of a high-end gentlemen’s club in New York City got more than eighty responses when he posted a job opening for exotic dancers on Craigslist.

Although exotic dancing can promise a better income than other jobs, experts caution women who are thinking of becoming exotic dancers not to rush without making a reasonable decision. According to experts, this type of job may affect a person’s relationships with family, friends and community.

Women at a Chicago strip club say stripping have not been their first choice for a career but they entered the industry already aware of the pros and cons. “What we love about this job is that we have more control of our time,” says one dancer. “The job is easy and we love it.”

For some women, dancing is temporary, their way to finance their college education or to invest for a business. Other women say they’ve found their calling. Most of these women are capable of earning USD 100,000 to USD 400,000 a year even during tough economic times.

While the US government is claiming that the country’s economy is in a recovery stage, most Americans feel that there’s still a big recession. In a recent internet survey, more than eighty percent of all American respondents voted yes when asked if the United States is still in an economic recession. In a country where the exotic dancing industry is the only “recession- resistant” business, women are finding refuge and are able to sustain their family’s needs.
